Applications for the 2026 season are now closed for most technical positions but are still open for the following: 

Lead Carpenter

Assistant Properties Coordinator


Guys & Dolls (June 19-July 5)
She Loves Me (July 10-19)
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (July 24-August 2)

SCHEDULE (subject to change)

  • Arrival day is Tuesday, May 26 for technical and costume staff. Contracts end between mid-July and August 6, depending on position. 
  • Shops are typically open 5 days a week; interns who run performances will work 6 days a week once performances begin.

DUTIES

  • Technicians are expected to work as directed by shop managers, Technical Director, designers, Managing Director, and Producing Artistic Director. Schedules and assignments will be communicated on a daily basis. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (as of May 27, 2026)
  • Should have at least one year of college-level theatre training or commensurate professional (paid) experience.

FAQ

  • All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of their contract.
  • All positions require basic computer skills and regular access to email.
  • All technical positions require the ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, and sit; accommodations for disabilities can be made in advance.
  • On-campus housing in a private room/private bath university dormitory (single occupancy) is provided for actors, technical staff, costume staff, and orchestra musicians. Meals are the responsibility of the employee, but those using the provided campus housing will have access to a shared kitchen facility. There are many quick food options and a major grocery store within walking distance to the dorm and the theatre. A small fridge and microwave are recommended staples for season employees staying in the dorm.
  • Travel to and from Winchester is the responsibility of the artist and should be booked within an arrival/departure window as communicated upon signing a contract. If flying or traveling by train/bus, SSMT can assist with ground transportation to and from Washington, D.C. area transportation hubs such as Washington Dulles Airport and Union Station.

Stage Manager for Guys and Dolls ($2000/production): works with Production Manager, administration, and creative team to serve as stage manager for Guys and Dolls.  May 27-July 5

HIRED Stage Manager for She Loves Me ($2000/production): works with Production Manager, administration, and creative team to serve as stage manager for She Loves Me.  June 16-July 19

HIRED Stage Manager for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical ($2000/production): works with Production Manager, administration, and creative team to serve as stage manager for Beautiful…  July -August 2

Production Management Intern ($4000/season): works with Production Management and SSMT administration to organize all communication between departments including scheduling production meetings and daily coordination between departments. Some pre-season work is required; on-site work May 27-August 3. 

Run Crew/ASM ($3500/season): serves as a general technician for the first few weeks, working in different shops as assigned, then moves to serve as an ASM for one show in the season and on the run crew for one show in the season. Some shop hours required during (non-ASM) performance weeks. 6 positions available. May 27-August 3

Assistant Company Manager ($4500/season): serves as main point of contact for all travel, housing, hospitality, and company event needs. Reports to Managing Director and Producing Artistic Director, works closely with stage management and production management. May 26-August 6

Run Crew Intern ($3250/season): serves as a general technician for the first few weeks, working in different shops as assigned, then serves on the run crew with some shop hours required during the performance weeks. 6 positions available. May 27-August 3

HIRED Sound Engineer ($6000/season): works with resident Sound Supervisor and Sound Designer(s) to build each show, execute design, and problem-solve during technical rehearsals. This position is on-call for troubleshooting needs during performances. May 27-August 3

HIRED Sound Assistant/Board Operator (A1) ($5000/season): works with Sound Supervisor/Designers to set up and maintain sound equipment, serves as board operator for performances. May 27-August 3

1 HIRED Sound Assistant (A2) ($3500/season): works with Sound Supervisor/Designers to set up and maintain sound equipment, assist A1 on all performances. 2 positions available. May 27-August 3

HIRED Assistant Production Electrician ($6000/season): assists Lighting Designers and Production Electrician/Lighting Shop Manager on all lighting needs. Must demonstrate the ability to supervise and instruct less experienced team members. May 27-August 3

2 HIRED Electrician ($4000/season): assists Lighting Designers, Production Electrician, and Assistant Production Electrician on all lighting needs, including serving as board operator or deck electrician for performances. 3 positions available. May 27-August 3

HIRED Properties Coordinator ($5400/season): works with Scenic Designers and Technical Director(s) on design, build, and acquisition of all furniture, set decor, and hand props needed for shows. Must demonstrate the ability to supervise and instruct less experienced team members. May 27-July 26

Assistant Properties Coordinator ($3600/season): assists Properties Coordinator on build/acquisition of all props. May 27-July 26

Properties Intern ($3250/season): works with Properties team on build of all props and supervises maintenance of props for all performances. Will serve on run crew for at least one show during the season. May 27-August 3

HIRED Assistant Technical Director ($7000/season): works on shop draftings, assists with coordination between different shops. Requires carpentry skills and knowledge of at least one other area (electrics, scenic, paint, props). Must demonstrate the ability to instruct less experienced team members, break down projects into assignments, and supervise others. May 27-August 3

Lead Carpenter ($5400/season): leads team of carpenters to execute daily build list with direction from Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director. Must demonstrate the ability to supervise and instruct less experienced team members. May 27-July 26

HIRED Carpenter ($3600/season): builds scenic pieces based on ATD/TD instruction; works with Shop Manager, TD, ATD, Lead Carpenter, Scenic Designers on completion of build. 3 positions available. May 27-July 26

HIRED Carpentry Intern ($3250/season): assists carpentry staff with build of show. May serve on run crew for one or more productions. May 27-August 3

HIRED Assistant Scenic Charge ($5400/season): assists resident Scenic Charge in execution of all scenic paint techniques. Must demonstrate ability to supervise and instruct less experienced team members. May 27-July 26

Scenic Artist ($3600/season): assists Scenic Charge and Assistant Scenic Charge in execution of all scenic paint techniques. May 27-July 26

1 HIREDPaint Intern ($3250/season): assists paint staff with execution of scenic paint techniques. May serve on run crew for one or more productions. 2 positions available. May 27-August 3

2 HIRED Costume Shop First Hand ($5400/season): works with the Shop Manager/Draper in the fitting, construction, and alteration of costumes. Requires experience with cutting and marking garments from patterns, excellent hand and machine sewing skills. Must demonstrate ability to supervise and instruct less experienced team members. 2 positions available. May 27-July 26

3 HIRED Stitcher ($3600/season): works with First Hands and Shop Manager/Draper in the construction and hand finishing of new costume pieces. Alters pulled and purchased garments. Requires proficiency at hand and machine sewing. May be assigned as an assistant to the designer for one show during the season, dependent on skill set. 4 positions available. May 27-July 26

HIRED Wardrobe Supervisor ($5000/season):  in collaboration with the Shop Manager and Costume Designer, generates paperwork to track costumes and quick changes. Organizes and supervises costume tracking and changes during the course of production. Along with Wardrobe Interns, is responsible for laundering, cleaning, and repairing costumes during the run of productions. Experience with wig maintenance is preferred. May 27-August 3

HIRED Wardrobe Intern ($3250/season): works with Costume Shop staff on construction of all costumes. Organizes and maintains wardrobe for dress rehearsals and performances, and serves as run crew. Experience with hand and machine sewing required. 3 positions available. May 27-August 3
