Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre is a professional, non-Equity theatre company produced by Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University. All shows are produced with full sets, lights, and costumes, and the complete cast and orchestra as licensed. Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre is a 610 seat proscenium theatre built in 1998 and is located on the main campus of Shenandoah University, 1460 University Dr, Winchester, VA.
SSMT is a professional theatre with an educational mission. All positions are paid, and all departments have an intern or entry level position geared to undergrads seeking professional experience early in their career trajectory. The entire company averages 100-150 members, ranging from interns working their first professional contract to season industry leaders with regional theatre and Broadway experience.
Requirements
- All applicants (except for Front of House and High School Apprentice) must be at least 18 years of age by the start of their contract. Front of House and High School Apprentice applicants must be at least 16 years of age by the start of their contract.
- All positions require basic computer skills and regular access to email.
- All technical positions require the ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, and sit; accommodations for disabilities can be made in advance.
Housing/Travel
- On-campus housing in a university dormitory is provided for actors, technical staff, costume staff, and orchestra musicians.
- Travel to and from Winchester is the responsibility of the artist and should be booked within an arrival/departure window as communicated upon signing a contract. If flying or traveling by train/bus, SSMT can assist with ground transportation to and from Washington, D.C. area transportation hubs such as Washington Dulles Airport and Union Station.
Compensation
- All positions are paid, including apprentice and intern positions; pay rates are listed on the individual job pages.
- Pay is divided equally among the number of pay periods during the contract and will be paid via Shenandoah University’s payroll system. All standard hiring paperwork, including proof of identification with an I-9 form is required before the first pay can be issued.
**Note: successful completion of a pre-employment background check will be required as a condition of hire.
