As we look forward to our 36th season in 2019, we are also honoring the life and legacy of our Founding Artistic Director, Harold Herman. Hal established the Theatre Division at Shenandoah Conservatory in 1973 and always kept the needs of the students in mind. His dream of a professional summer stock company in residence at Shenandoah to give his students an opportunity to continue their education and development during the summer became a reality with the first SSMT season in 1984. He served as the Artistic Director for 31 summers and directed over 115 productions for SSMT, and as we celebrate our 35th season, we are eternally grateful for his vision and dedication to teaching the art of live theatre.
To honor Hal’s legacy and continue his vision for Shenandoah Conservatory as a center of excellence for theatre training and performance, we are pleased to announce the establishment of the Harold Herman Lab Theatre inside the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre building in the current “Green Room” space. The fully transformed theatre will include flexible seating for nearly 60, high tech LED lighting, industry standard rigging infrastructure and lighting controls, and the latest in innovative theatrical technology, making it a 21st century center for theatrical training and performance.
