Meet the costume designers!
This summer, Jennifer Flitton Adams will be designing The Music Man, and coordinating the costumes for The Addams Family, and costumes for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and The Wiz will be designed by Cheryl Yancey, who is in her 23rd season with SSMT.
Jennifer has been a costume designer for over twenty years. B.A./Liberal Arts, Sarah Lawrence College; M.F.A./Theatre/Costume Design, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also studied art and fashion design in Florence, Italy at the Centro Lorenzo de’Medici and the Accademia della Moda. Jennifer has designed and taught at Shenandoah University as an Associate Professor of Theatre/Costume Design since 1999. Regional theatre work includes two years as the resident costume designer at the Allenberry Playhouse, as well as design and/or technical work at Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, the Totempole Playhouse, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Colorado Opera Festival, Santa Fe Opera, the Pennsylvania Stage Company, Summer Studio Theatre Company, and the Tuacahn Center for the Arts, among others.
Cheryl‘s work has been seen in Show Boat, Crazy for You, Damn Yankees, Gigi, Jesus Christ Superstar, Fiddler on the Roof, 1776, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Seussical, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Cats, Shrek!: The Musical, and last season’s Monty Python’s Spamalot. A member of the Shenandoah Conservatory faculty, Cheryl has been teaching classes in costume and makeup for over 25 years. She was previously the resident costume designer for Allentown College in PA and the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. She has also designed for the Washington Stage Guild, George Washington University, Dorney Park in Allentown, PA, and Robin Miller Productions in Bethlehem, PA. Cheryl has also received American College Theatre awards for her costume designs in Flea in Her Ear, A Man for All Seasons, and The Cherry Orchard.
