Meet the Music Director! Matthew J. Pool is absolutely thrilled to return to SSMT for a second season to serve as the Music Director and Conductor for The Wiz. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in musical theatre conducting and studies with longtime SSMT music director Thomas Albert. He plans to graduate from Shenandoah in May.
Matthew was born and raised in Texas and graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. He then graduated cum laude from Baylor University, where he studied organ, conducting, carillon, and composition.
He was most recently seen on the Ohrstrom-Bryant stage conducting the regional premiere of American Idiot, and he is currently the Music Director for Shenandoah Conservatory’s production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. His favorite theatre credits include All Shook Up, Chicago, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, The King and I, Man of La Mancha, Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma!, Pippin, The Secret Garden, Smokey Joe’s Café, South Pacific, and Spamalot.
