It’s time to meet the Music Director! He’s no stranger, as SSMT’s opening production of the 2015 season, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, will mark Tom Albert’s sixty-fifth show as music director since the first season in 1984.
Most recently, he conducted Mary Poppins, The King and I, Chicago, Les Misérables, 9 to 5, Grease,” and Aida. He has been music director for more than 70 musicals and revues during Shenandoah’s academic year seasons, including this past September’s collegiate premiere of Green Day’s American Idiot, as well as recent productions of The Secret Garden, All Shook Up, Into the Woods, Sweet Charity, The Who’s Tommy, and Assassins.
In addition to conducting musicals, he has also composed or arranged incidental music for several plays, including The Crucible, The Diviners, To Kill a Mockingbird,””Summer and Smoke, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Metamorphoses, Peer Gynt, and Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches.
Tom has been on the Shenandoah Conservatory faculty since 1974; he is currently Professor of Music (Composition, Musical Theatre) and holds the Charles B. Levitin Chair in Musical Theatre.
